5 fun places to visit with family this summer

Planning a family day out can be tricky when everyone has a different idea of fun. The good news is that Buckshaw Village, Chorley and the wider Lancashire countryside are packed with places the whole family can enjoy this summer. Here are five of our favourites, all within easy reach of The Hub at Buckshaw.

1. Cuerden Valley Park

Cuerden Valley Park is a beautiful green space with something for every age. Little ones can play by the river, while grown ups relax on the benches and take in the views. Wander through The Walled Orchard, enjoy the woodland walks and explore the Pinetum. The park also hosts a range of events throughout the summer, so there is always something new to discover.

2. Go Ape Rivington

For families who love a bit of adventure, Go Ape at Rivington is hard to beat. Swing through the trees on the zip lines, glide along on a Forest Segway or take on the treetop obstacles. There is even a playground up in the trees for children up to the age of 15, so this is a day out the whole family can enjoy together.

3. Cappuccino Cafe at The Hub

After all that fresh air, pop into Cappuccino Cafe here at The Hub in Buckshaw Village. We serve coffees, teas, smoothies and plenty of other delicacies, with a wide choice of food and a warm, family friendly welcome. It is the perfect spot to refuel before or after your adventures. 4. Cedar Farm Galleries

Set in serene countryside, Cedar Farm Galleries is home to a collection of independent retailers, a small farm and children's play areas. It is a relaxed place to browse, meet the animals and let the children burn off some energy, all in one peaceful spot.

5. Rufford Old Hall

Just about 10 miles from Buckshaw Village, Rufford Old Hall is a 500 year old National Trust property with formal gardens and woodland to explore. Over the summer the hall runs family activities such as Make a Mud Pie and archery, making it a great mix of history and hands on fun.
