Get in the Christmas Spirit: Festive Activities for the Whole Family

We are already fully in the holiday spirit here at The Hub at Buckshaw. If you do not love all things Christmas, this blog probably is not for you. But if you do, stick around, because we are going to share some fabulously festive activities for you to do with your family on the run-up to the big day.

1. Decorating

If you have been a bit of a Grinch and have not decorated your house already, get to it. There is no better way to get in the Christmas spirit than putting up the tree and styling your home with twinkly lights and tinsel galore.

If you want to go all out this year, a quick Pinterest search will bring up a ton of decoration inspiration in every colour in the rainbow. Once you have found your style, gather the family, put on some Christmas music and get to work.

2. Baking

The festive period is all about eating anything and everything, right? Including lots of sweet treats. Nothing says Christmas like walking into your house to the smell of cookies in the oven and Michael Bublé blasting through the stereo.

BBC Good Food has some great recipe ideas for adults and children that are sure to make the whole family feel merry, including mince pies, gingerbread men and houses, elf and Santa cookies and the classic yule log. Once the baking is done, why not treat yourselves to a hot chocolate at our Cappuccino cafe too.

3. Crafts

Crafting is a great way to keep the children occupied during the weekends running up to Christmas. The things you create make for lovely personal holiday decorations that you can use anywhere in your home, and they are also great for gifting.

From Christmas cards to paper chains, Rudolph baubles and snowmen made of toilet rolls, there are plenty of super fun Christmas craft ideas that little ones love. It is exactly the kind of creative play we champion at our Ofsted Outstanding nursery in Buckshaw Village.

4. Games

Make the festive period extra fun by playing some original games. For children's games, pin the nose on the snowman, the stocking guessing game and candy cane hunts are some great options.

But games are not just for children. They are fun for people of all ages, especially when they are Christmas themed. From charades and Pictionary to festive party games, there are fantastic Christmas game ideas for grown-ups to enjoy once the little ones are tucked up in bed.
